Rutgers University Newark Office of Information Technology conducts their major hiring for student workers during the Spring of each year. The hours are flexible and students will have the opportunity to gain valuable real-world working experience in a thriving environment. Students of every major are encouraged to apply. RU-N IT hires students taking 6 credits or more.

RU-N IT Consultant – Apply Here

RU-N IT consultants work at the Help Desk or in any of the varied computing labs which RU-N IT operates on the Newark Campus.  Consultants are the first line of assistance when someone needs assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality customer support to all users on campus, over the phone, email, face-to-face, and chat.  
  • Able to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and clients 
  • Punctual and reliable in attendance, including mandatory meetings 
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively 
  • Communicate technical information to non-technical customers, verbally and in writing 
  • Troubleshoot and provide solutions for a wide range of computing and user support issues, both for campus- and customer-owned systems 
  • Troubleshoot network issues, and repair jacks and faceplates 
  • Ensure that university, campus, and lab rules are followed 
  • Escalate unusual occurrences to supervisor/s 
  • Ensure equipment and software is operational 
  • Record usage statistics 
  • Maintain work location in a neat, clean, and orderly manner 
  • Create, update and maintain documentation (handouts & web site) 
  • Log all phone calls, email, and drop-by issues, and chat transcripts into the tracking software

CIF Repair Technician – Apply Here

Coordinated Instructional Facility (CIF) Technicians provides technical assistance to the RU-N IT full time staff in diagnosing, monitoring, and repairing systems in the Newark campus computing labs, ensuring systems operate effectively and reliably.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for Windows and Macintosh workstations, printers, computer peripherals, and networks in the campus computing labs
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and resolve problems with hardware, system and application software, and new technologies
  • Assist in the testing, implementation, and deployment of enhancements and upgrades
  • Diagnose system malfunctions: All computer peripherals, pcs, macs, and printers
  • Perform regular printer maintenance
  • Document all repairs to CIF equipment
  • Assist in maintenance of physical inventory of equipment, and provides reports as needed
  • Keep accurate records regarding work completed and parts used
  • Submit completed payroll time sheet in a specified time period
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to OSHA standards (70 lbs) as required
  • Ability to perform work responsibly and orderly
  • Work in a team environment with RU-N IT full time staff, lab managers, and lab consultants
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

RU-N IT Office Assistant – Apply Here

This position provides administrative support to the Rutgers University Newark Office of Information Technology (RU-N IT) staff members. Works closely with the Director, Department Administrator and staff members of the Rutgers University Newark Office of Information Technology. Handle routine duties essential to day-to-day operation. The position requires good understanding of various services provided by OIT, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment. This position is also responsible for documentation, filing, and other administrative functions that support front office operations. Will also perform other tasks and special projects as assigned by department administrator.

Responsibilities

  • Reception duties
  • Work closely with Department Administrator & Director to assist in department funtions
  • Maintain use of office equiptment
  • Matintain clean and orderly office environment
  • Provide general assistance to campus community not limitied to faculty, staff and students
  • Field all phone calls, emails, and drop-by issues as directed by department administrator
  • Create, update and maintain office documentation
  • Act as front office liaison for RU-N IT department
  • Perform other duties as assigned
